No breaking other player's blocks, or looting other player's items from chests anywhere, even in unclaimed land. It is still considered griefing even if you remake what you took afterwards, for example with crops. Also no killing of player owned mobs.
No hacking or use of any modifications which provide an unfair advantage. The use of Optifine and shaders is permitted.
No spamming chat (repeatedly posting or filling the chat), or advertising any server in chat.
If a player asks you to leave their area, you should do so (unless you are pursuing them in PVP). Swearing is allowed in moderate amounts, but never if it is directed at players. Insults are similarly unacceptable.
Leave room for players
Only settle within 50 blocks of existing player buildings when you have the permission of the builder. If you wish to build over a large area, make sure to mark this area out in advance so that players can obviously see where you wish to expand. Older builds in the way of expansion (where the builder has not logged on in over 2 months) may be deleted if the permission of a staff member is given.
Don't abuse any exploits
Report exploits to staff immediately, otherwise you will be punished. If in doubt you can ask staff.
No AFK machines
The server will kick you if you're idle for 30 minutes - do not create ways around this automatic kick.
No portal traps (where blocks seal a nether portal entirely, meaning that players can't exit or type commands or chat). And no traps that could kill players (except on Umbra where PVP is allowed).
Don't trick players - this is a friendly server. This particularly applies to renaming items in the player market to mislead others.
Refunding of items
Items are only ever refunded if rules were broken or if they were lost due to a provable server fault (this does not include issues or bugs with Minecraft itself, just features unique to our server).
Lag is not considered to be provable since at any given moment it's impossible to determine if lag is server or player side, and it's impossible to determine if a player would have lost the items if not for the lag.
The server does not clear item drops any earlier than the default Minecraft amount. Items will never be returned due to despawned items.
Attacking players is disabled - do not try to find ways to harm other players.
Town land is owned by the mayor
Anything within Towny-made towns is under the rule of the Mayor (and Caretakers). This means they can modify anything (including residents buildings) within their town. However Mayors removing a player's work should try to return their items to them, for example placing them in a storage chest.
Use Towny ranks correctly
If town residents are given ranks, then they are permitted to do anything which those ranks provide without punishment. For example, a Caretaker taking all of a town's money won't result in punishment - be careful who you trust with town ranks.
